The excursion is a guided tour that will take us to culturally and historically important places in the region of Borgarfjörður. The first stop is in Borgarnes where we will visit Borgarnes Museum (Safnahús Borgarfjarðar) and The Settlement Center (Landnámssetur Íslands), where we will also have a lunch buffet (which is included in the price for the excursion). After lunch we will head to Borg á Mýrum, where the Viking-age poet and warrior Egill Skallagrímsson lived, and then to Reykholt, the home of the poet and chieftain Snorri Sturluson (1179-1241), the author of the Prose Edda, Heimskringla and perhaps also Egils saga. We will enjoy an afternoon coffee and condiments in Reykholt (which is also included in the price). The rest of the tour will depend on the weather but participants are advised to bring along swim gear as they might get an opportunity to dip into a natural pool in Borgarfjörður.
The tour will take off at 9.15 from the University main building (Aðalbygging), next to Lögberg, and we expect to be back to Reykjavík around 18.00.
