Announcement regarding the COVID-19 Coronavirus:
Due to COVID-19, the GALANA-9 conference which was scheduled to take place in Reykjavík, Iceland on August 21-23, 2020 will be postponed.
Since it is still unclear if social distance measures and travel restrictions will also be in effect next year, the organizers are considering two options: either the conference will be held in Reykjavík and postponed to August 20-22, 2021, or we will host the conference online at an earlier date.
The final decision will be made in early September when we hope to know more about the development of the pandemic. If the conference will be hosted online instead of here in Iceland, we hope to have it at the end of this year or in early 2021. In any case GALANA-9 will take place either in Iceland or virtually.
We will honor the existing acceptances for talks and posters for the conference and we understand that adjustments may be made by presenters, given the extra year/months. In due course, we will be in touch with each presenter to obtain confirmation that they will still participate in the conference.
We regret that it has come to this and are sorry for the inconvenience.
Please join us for the 9th bi-annual conference on Generative Approaches to Language Acquisition ‒ North America (GALANA 2020) on August 21-23, 2020, hosted by the Institute of Linguistics at the University of Iceland in Reykjavík, Iceland. Although this is the first time that GALANA is hosted outside North America, it will still take place on the North American tectonic plate, where the University of Iceland campus is located.
The GALANA conference features theoretically informed research on all types of language acquisition scenarios, including (but not limited to) monolingual first language acquisition, bilingual/multilingual first language acquisition, second language acquisition by children as well as adults, third language acquisition, acquisition of signed as well as spoken languages, language disorders, language acquisition in the presence of cognitive impairment and autism, the development of pidgins and creoles, and language attrition.
Since the layout of the conference is still not clear, we kindly ask participants to wait with registration until further notice.
We hope to be able to welcome you in Reykjavík, Iceland, in August 2021.
On behalf of the GALANA 9 organizing committee,
