Enrique Bernárdez

bernardezEnrique Bernárdez was born in Madrid in 1949. He studied at the Faculty of Philology of the Complutense University, Madrid, where he has been teaching since 1972.

He has written books and scientific papers, mainly on linguistics (including Nordic and Icelandic topics), and has also been active in translation; he translated some Sagas (Njála, Egla, Hrafnkatla…) and parts of the Eddas. Among the contemporary Icelandic writers he has translated, the following can be mentioned: Laxness, Sjón, Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir, Arnaldur Indriðason, Jón Kalman Stefánsson, Thor Vilhjálmsson. And of course Guðbergur Bergsson: Tóta og táin á pabba, Tómas Jónsson, Sú kvalda ást…, Faðir, móðir og dulmagn bernskunnar, Lömuðu kennslukonurnar and most recently, Missir.
