Birna Bjarnadóttir las bókmenntir og fagurfræði við Háskóla Íslands, Freie Universität í Berlín og Warwick háskóla á Englandi, og veitir íslenskudeild Manitóbaháskóla forstöðu.  Hún hefur skrifað um bókmenntir og fagurfræði og birt efni beggja vegna Atlantshafs.  Hún er einnig höfundur skáldskapar og hefur meðal annars gefið út a book of fragments (2010) með formála eftir George Toles og myndverkum eftir Cliff Eyland, Harald Jónsson og Guy Maddin.  Bók hennar Holdið hemur andann. Um fagurfræði í skáldskap Guðbergs Bergssonar (2003), var gefin út í enskri þýðingu Kristjönu Gunnars hjá McGill–Queen’s University Press árið 2012:  Recesses of the Mind.  Aesthetics in Guðbergur Bergsson’s Work.

Birna Bjarnadóttir studied literature and aesthetics at the University of Iceland, Freie University in Berlin and the University of Warwick, England. She holds the position of the Chair of Icelandic at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, and serves also as the department’s Head. She has published essays, articles and books on both sides of the Atlantic, among them a book of fragments (Kind Publishing, 2010), which is a collection of poetic texts with a foreword by George Toles and illustrations by Cliff Eyland, Haraldur Jónsson and Guy Maddin.  She is also the author of Recesses of the Mind.  Aesthetics in Guðbergur Bergsson´s Work (McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2012).
